September 30, 2023 (Steven O’Reilly) – Over the last six months or so, Roma Locuta Est has been producing a series of video rebuttals of the various claims made by those – “Benepapists” – who believe Benedict remained pope until his death in 2022.
Thus far, the video series has looked at various Benepapist claims surrounding the following: the munus vs. ministerium, Canon 17, Benedict’s last audience (“the always is also a forever”), and the Ratzinger Code. These videos may be found HERE.
The content of these videos can also be found in various articles on the Roma Locuta Est blog, including The Case against those who claim “Benedict is (still) pope”, Summa Contra the BiP Theory (Why Benedict XVI is NOT the pope), Summa Contra Andrea Cionci, Plan B, and the Ratzinger Code and A Rebuttal of Dr. Mazza’s book on Pope Benedict’s Resignation).
The newest addition to the video series is a two-part look at Archbishop Ganswein’s speech of 2016. This speech has been seized upon by the Benepapists who allege it proves their thesis that Benedict did not fully resign the papacy in 2013. The two-part Ganswein series can be found on YouTube at the links below.
Part 1: Ganswein’s Speech, Part I
Part 2: Ganswein’s Speech, Part II
Roma Locuta Est articles which address Ganswein’s speech include Regarding Ganswein’s speech, as well as others found in the article compilations in the links above. My book on Benepapism also addresses Ganswein’s speech, as well as the other Benepapist claims (see Valid? The Resignation of Pope Benedict XVI: The Case against the Benepapists).
